Meet the founder
OI Tutors was founded by Ms Lawunmi Ogwu, an experienced educator with more than fifteen years of teaching and tutoring across a wide range of learners. She has taught high achieving students working towards top grades, students who have not yet recognised their own potential and learners in both high and low ability groups. Her experience includes supporting students facing confidence issues, social pressures, disrupted home lives or limited academic support.
She has worked with learners who act as young carers, students experiencing stress or anxiety and young people who struggle with behaviour or engagement. Her work also includes supporting students with English as an additional language and adults returning to education.
A significant part of her experience is with neurodivergent learners, including autistic learners, students with ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia and developmental language disorders. This has shaped a thoughtful and structured approach to supporting individual needs.
The name OI Tutors comes from two names that hold personal significance and are part of the founder’s children’s names.
The O represents Ojemeh (pronounced O-jeh-meh), meaning My King.
The I represents Ivie (pronounced Ee-vee-ay), meaning Precious Jewels.
Including these names in the company title reflects a commitment to maintaining high standards and delivering a service that families can trust.
From this foundation, OI Tutors has grown into a small team of experienced teachers who share the same commitment to quality and steady, purposeful teaching. Each tutor is selected for their professionalism, depth of experience and ability to support learners with clarity and understanding.
