What we do

OI Tutors is a boutique tutoring service offering carefully considered academic support through experienced, carefully vetted teachers.

We work with families, individuals and organisations in the Croydon and Bromley boroughs who value high standards, professional accountability and structured academic support.

We also provide online tuition, allowing students from across the UK and internationally to access the same level of professional support.

Our focus is on providing consistent, high-quality tutoring tailored to the needs of each student. This includes support for KS2 -SATs, KS3, GCSE and A-level students, adult learners, and those who benefit from a more personalised approach.

Our approach

Personal. Purposeful. Properly taught.

This means:

  • Tutors are carefully selected and rigorously vetted.
  • Teaching is structured, purposeful and outcome-aware.
  • Expectations are agreed clearly before tuition begins.
  • Responsibility sits with us, not just the individual tutor.
  • We do not make promises we cannot keep.
  • We do promise professional honesty, expert teaching and measurable progress when commitment and intensity align.

Meet the founder

OI Tutors was founded by Ms Lawunmi Ogwu, an experienced educator with over fifteen years of teaching and tutoring experience across a wide range of learners.

She has supported high-achieving students working towards top grades, as well as learners who require additional structure, confidence building and personalised support.

She has supported students through confidence challenges, difficult social circumstances and disrupted schooling. She has also supported students with English as an additional language and adults returning to education.

A significant part of her work has involved supporting neurodivergent learners, including autistic students and those with ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia and speech and language needs. This has shaped a thoughtful, structured and highly individualised approach to tutoring.

The name OI Tutors is rooted in personal significance.

It is derived from the names of the founder’s children, reflecting the care, pride and high standards at the heart of the service.

The 'O' represents Ojemeh, which means 'My King'.
The 'I' represents Ivie, which means 'precious jewels'.

Together, the name reflects a simple but important belief: every learner should be valued, supported and treated as something precious.

At OI Tutors, each student is seen as an individual with unique potential. Our role is to nurture that potential with care, attention and dedication, ensuring that every learner is given the opportunity to grow with confidence.

From this foundation, OI Tutors has grown into a small, carefully selected team focused on delivering thoughtful, high-quality academic support.
